M&U&Everyone
Hard at work here, on a strange piece of music in many ways very different than any I've written in the past. It is quite deep harmonically, and made up of several sections, thematically related... But they are different tempos, different feels... So it's a challenge to see how I can fit them together. I love playing through the very pleasurable and complex changes, finding the points of intersection for the various sections.
Also, I was extremely moved and thoroughly entertained by Miranda July's film "Me and You and Everyone We Know"... This definitely gets my vote for Favorite Film of 2005. Totally soulful, with a great story, a great script with unbelievable dialogue, healthy doses of both absurdism and surrealism, very memorable and strong characters of all ages, and a leading actress (also the writer/director) who stole my heart --- this movie just got to me. I highly recommend it for a rental.
I also saw a fine documentary on the French philosopher Jacques Derrida. Also, a great rental. This guy's mind is in another realm. Deconstruction may be a little unfashionable these days, but it's evident from hearing this man speak that his philosophy is a force to be reckoned with.
On a final musical note... The new Joao Bosco CD, "Malabaristas do Sinal Vermelho" is a beautiful effort, with some incredible songwriting, singing, and arranging. The song, "Benzetacil," which seems to be about medications, is worth the price of the CD.
OK... back to the drawing board!
