"Swedish Sandal Sound"
...That was something Billy Dobrow and I used to say, and laugh about for days.
We would make up little surreal songs about the Swedish sandal sound, and makers of fine French chandeliers...
Hey, we still make up songs like that.
Word came in an email from Bennie Wallace that the Coleman Hawkins Centennial Tributes in Berlin and NYC went beautifully.
Sold out shows in NYC!
I am in Stockholm, Sweden... thinking about the Swedish Sandal Sound.
Met a beautiful girl last night, who I'll probably never see again, name of "Stina."
So beautiful... really.
Today, walking, I found the most amazing shop that sells VERY SPECIFIC, painstakingly selected, DVD's, CD's, books, and
magazines.
Ben Zelle: you would piss your pants in this place, and you'd buy everything they had.
The name of the shop is: BADLANDS
www.badlands.se
Check it out! This place goes at the top of my favorite things list for 2004...
I'm watching a DVD I bought there, a documentary about Country artists (such as Townes Van Zandt) from the 1970's.
The film is called "Heartworn Highways."
It gets pitch black dark here by 4 PM everyday, and the streets are covered with snow.
And something I wrote in my journal yesterday:
"The man who chooses to live in a psychic position of no security--absolute openness--holds the keys to the kingdom. Awareness, willingness, an open embrace for contingency, emergency, strangeness..."
