Early Ivan Lins
A beautiful Saturday evening at home, after a trip to Amoeba for new records.
I always could tell Ivan Lins was an amazing genius, but I never found the right records to back it up. But I always kept trying. Today I hit gold. I bought four of his records from the 1970's. There's only one I'm not so sure about. But, still, it sure is better than those things from the 80s and 90s. But the one that really knocked me on my ass was called "SOMOS TODOS IGUAIS NESTA NOITE" (EMI, 1977)... That album is just a constant marvel of melody, harmony, and I'm sure lyrics too, even though I don't understand a word of Portuguese. And his singing is so powerful and beautiful. If there's anybody out there reading this, and if you are interested in Brazilian music, you MUST own this CD. It is a true masterpiece. Also, the CD's "MODO LIVRE" (RCA, 1974; his first album?), and "NOS DIAS DE HOJE" (EMI, 1978) are very highly reccommended. I'll let you know soon about "NOVO TEMPO" (EMI, year?).... But obviously this is the period when he did his best work. The 1974 recording is pretty amazing, and if it's his first CD..... it just shows how far down our expectations for debuts have dropped in the ensuing 30 years. Truly.
Also, I picked up "ANTOLOGIA," by Marcos Valle. A greatest hits package. Every song is amazing. I really hit gold today. Can't stop listening to this shit!
AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! This is happiness for me, for sure.
