Gil Evans

Was not fucking around.

Neither was Kenny Burrell.

Listen to "Time of the Barracudas" from "The Individualism of Gil Evans" and you'll know what I'm talking about...

"The Barbara Song" arrangement is a masterpiece!

One of my favorite albums of all-time.

Sunset, March 27

Taking away things... we had to take the tree in the backyard out... its live roots have pushed against and altered retaining walls that bordered the adjoining properties... could turn into a big problem if we didn't stop those roots from growing.
Putting up things... hanging pictures that have been sitting against walls for months. Trying to keep my head up... It's been a hard couple of weeks and I feel like I'm only now beginning to feel those deep deep strong feelings of grieving... from saying goodbye to someone I love so much. I hope she's ok. I think of her a lot, and our whole reality, our story... Today was a cold snap... 30 minutes of driving rain and a windstorm... then cold winds as the day progressed. Crystal clear skies. Thinking things... And still, moving forward with all the things that are also the center of my life: plans for gigs, paying bills, the daily stuff. Watching the wind move the trees, seeing the sweet pink haze as the sun descends past the hills on the horizon.
